2011 he was introduced to Lagos’ thriving music scene through friend and artist Davido, who then introduced him to an already young superstar Wizkid, which helped to start his journey to becoming an international music producer as he went on to produce for some of the biggest artists.
Whether the tracks are made for himself or for others, nearly everything produced by Maleek Berry is highly percussive and melodic, made for dancing and romancing. Active since the early 2010s, the British-born Nigerian artist became an inhouse producer for Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment in 2013. After work for the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Wale, and Wande Coal, as well as a slew of solo singles Such has the Afropop hit “Kontrol” , Berry released his debut EP, Last Daze of Summer, through his Berry’s Room label in 2016. Another single, „4 Me,“ along with one of the biggest songs of 2017 „Juice“ with Ycee, his solo 2017 hit ‘Been Calling” were issued the next year alongside a major collaboration with Jidenna on “Bambi Too” which also featured Quavo.
Maleek’s debut as a solo artist paved the way for 2016’s ‘Last Daze of Summer’ EP which has amassed over a staggering 200 million combined streams and thrust him firmly into the international spotlight.
Following the runaway global success of his ‘Last Daze of Summer’ EP – spawning the global underground hit ‘Kontrol’ which has amassed over 200 million streams on premium platforms, Maleek is shaping up to be one of the most influential figures in the forefront of the African pop culture.
