“Vrelo” was founded by Natasa Tomic at the very beginning of 1999 in Ruma. During that period it was purely female vocal group that performed the traditional music of the Ancient Serbia. Next year was the year when this vocal group became a vocal-instrumental ethno ensemble “VRELO” containing 18 female vocals and 7 musicians on the traditional instruments. Up to 2003 VIEE”VRELO” explores, studies and works on the Serbian folklore material and of the other Slavonic peoples and during this period their music has several phases. “Vrelo” performs several solo concerts, records several musical TV shows and appears on music festivals. They also recorded a CD ( which is not officially published ) named “UZDE NA BELO”.
The Fall of 2003 brought many changes into the group. Stanko Tomic brought up an idea which totally changed the way of work, approach and music concept of “VRELO”. Namely, the vocal-instrumental ethno ensemble was transformed into a band. The traditional music substance was no longer used as the basis of their work but as the motif. The reduction – minimalistic approach ( big semibreves, big blocks …), adjustedness and nakedness of the expression through only two instruments (bass guitar and drums) and backing tracks at one side and six voices which move between old patterns and modern expresion on the other side, make “VRELO” a part of the world music by relying on the identity and authenticity of Slavic music.
After entering BBC`s The Next Big Thing 2007 “VRELO” was chosen among over 2500 performers from 88 countries to play in London at MAIDA VALE studio and won 2nd place of this prestigeous competition.
“VRELO” published their first album, named “Preko reke”, at the end of August 2008 for the record label PGP.

Goran Potkonjak ist für die Schweiz, was Robert Soko für Deutschand ist, seine Balkankaravan Partys in Zürich sind das Pendant zu Balkanbeats in Berlin......und damit eben ein Garant dafür, dass schweisstreibende Traditionals aus Europas Südosten mit dem heissesten Scheiss der Clubszene mittel- und westeuropäischer Metropolen durch den Mixer gejagt werden, damit dem wehrlosen Gast die Tanzbeine nicht mehr stillstehen!!

Am Anfang war nichts. Vielleicht ein Jodeln hier und da. Ansonsten nichts. Wirklich lange Zeit nichts. Dann kamen die Trompeten, eine Trompete nach der andern, Tubas, Saxophone, Klarinetten, und es folgten Trommel und Tapan. Und die Menschen freuten sich. Zuerst spielte das Boban Marković Orkestar. Im Herbst 2003. Sie brachten uns die heissen, verrückten, süssen, traurigen, schnellen, langsamen Lieder. Ekrem Sajdić kam mit den Zlatni Prsti, die Mostar Sevdah Reunion mit Ljiljana Buttler und Boris Kovač mit dem Ladaba Orkestar. Es sprach sich herum, und eine ganze Karawane folgte: Fanfare Ciocarlia, Boom Pam, Balkan Beat Box, Ot Azoj, Kal, Amira, Prekmurski Kavbojci, Dobra Notch, Vlatko Stefanovski Trio, Baba Zula, Haydamaky, Miss Platnum, Besh O Drom, Figli Di Madre Ignota, Rock Gitano und La Caravane Passe, das Duša Orkestar, das Živeli Orkestar mit Suzana Đorđević, DJ Tagada, das Gypsy Sound System und Fatima Spar mit den Freedom Fries.
Am schönsten wäre, wenn alle zusammen kommen würden. Aber wir sind uns nicht sicher, ob das möglich wäre. Unsere Wohnungen sind nicht gross genug. Im Sommer 2008 hat die Loxandra-Truppe aus Griecheland bei uns übernachtet. Jedes Zimmer, jedes Bett war belegt. Wir schliefen unter dem Tisch, auf dem Tisch gab es keinen Platz. Dort lag das Spanferkel – wie es sich gehört. Deshalb gibt es "balkankaravan". Wir wollen viele Gäste aus der fernen und weniger fernen Welt bei uns empfangem, mit ihnen tanzen und das süsse traurige Leben feiern.
